Join us April 22, 2022 as we raise money and awareness for children facing cancer and other life challenges.
Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation
Founded in 2017, the Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that enhances the quality of life for children facing cancer and other life challenges by funding programs that provide therapeutic, medical and educational opportunities.
The programs we support are inspired by the interests and passions of Carson Gene Higgins, who courageously faced neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer that affects the body’s nervous system. While Carson’s life was short, it was rich with faith, hope, love, and strength. His examples of kindness and generosity encourage us to live and love richly, to take each day as a gift, and to give generously.
With your help, we can bring hope to other families facing difficult and sometimes devastating life challenges.
When the doctor says, “Your child has cancer,” your world falls apart. As a parent, your entire focus is on doing all you can to make your child well.
John and Debbie Higgins know first-hand the anxiety, fear, stress and focus that overwhelm a family when they are told their child is gravely ill. Their son Carson was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma at the age of three. With four other children to care for, John and Debbie were blessed with the support of family, friends and strangers in the community who provided meals, lawn care and other assistance throughout Carson’s journey.
They also realize how precious every moment is.
It is in this spirit of “paying it forward” – a concept that Carson, who lived a life rich in love, faith, kindness, and generosity, embraced in his 12 years – that the Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation supports programs and services that enhance families’ experiences and the quality of life for children facing cancer and other life challenges.
Having experienced the sorrows and joys of Carson’s journey, John, Debbie and their family bring their insight and commitment to CHMF to help others as they were helped.
After taking two years off because of Covid-19, it was wonderful to have the support of over 200 people who came to Todaro’s for the Foundation’s annual dinner, raising more than $50,000 for programs and services that enhance the lives of children facing cancer and other life challenges.
Thanks to our supporters, more than 350 books and journals, along with dozens of pens and colored pencils, were donated to Stewart’s Caring Place. The items were collected through a book drive in honor of what would have been Carson’s 18th birthday.
Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation co-founders John and Debbie Higgins will speak on the topic “Why Not Me?” at Walsh Jesuit Mothers’ Club’s Annual Spring Brunch, Sunday, March 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. in Cuyahoga Falls.
